December 2008

Bannatynes Success at Black Belt Grading

The final Bannatynes grading took place on Tuesday 16 December at Inverkeithing High School.  This was the last event in what has been a very busy calendar of events this year.  Well done to Connor Tomlin who successfully passed his first grading to achieve his yellow tags and to Fraser Barratt who was promoted to double black tag.

Bannatynes Student of the Year

At the club Christmas Night Out on 5 December, Mr Owain Barratt was named as the Bannatynes Student of the Year.  Mr Barratt has had an excellent 2008 with the success he has had at the Black Belt Leagues since passing his black belt in May and has also been a great support since the addition of the Bannatynes Junior Club.  Paul Gowens was also recognised by Mr Cunningham as overall Colour Belt of the year for the second year running.

 

November 2008

Bannatynes Success at Black Belt Grading

The final black belt gradings of the year took place on 15 and 16 November.  On Saturday Mr Owain Barratt confirmed to 1st degree black belt, the first confirmed junior black belt from the Bannatynes club.  On the Sunday, Mr Andrew Miller successfully passed to 2nd degree black belt after what was a long day having completed the colour belt seminar before sitting his grading.  Paul Gowens, Brenda Walker and Lesley Mealing also joined Mr Purves and Mr Miller at the colour belt seminar hosted by Master Brown where they were able to pick and refresh their colour belt patterns in preparation for sitting their black belts next year.

Junior Parents Night - Kelty and Bannatynes Juniors

On Thursday 13 November, parents of students from both junior classes attended the first club parents night.  This was a great hit with parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters.  At the open night the parents got to see the children doing a warm up, patterns, stances, sparring, jumping kicks and even managed to learn a little Korean from the children!!  The children weren't the only ones working hard, as both instructors, Mr Chalmers and Mrs Purves also joined in and demonstrated one of their 1st degree black belt patterns in a two man team showcasing precision and timing.  Also, thank you to Mr Miller and Gary Anderson who both supported on the evening

Club Grading - Kelty and Bannatynes Juniors

On Thursday 6 November, the final grading of the year took place for the Bannatynes Junior club and Kelty Club.  The grading saw 27 promotions across both clubs and we even managed to fit in a photo session for the local newspaper.

Black Belt Seminar - 11/12 October

On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October Master Brown hosted a Black Belt Seminar for 1st degrees and above.  At the seminar Master Brown went through the technical aspects of various techniques and patterns from 1st - 4th Degree.  From our club this was attended by Mr Purves (4th Degree), Mr Andrew Miller (1st Degree) and Mrs Louise Purves (1st Degree).

Colour Belt Competition - Burntisland

On Saturday 11 October a colour belt competition took place in Burntisland with  22 competitors from across the NP Tae Kwon Do Academy collecting a further 25 medals to add to the year's total.  Well done to everyone who took part including the following students who were all taking part in their first competition.  Maeanna Cerchiria (Kelty), Michael Stevenson (Kelty), Katie Wilson (Kelty), Josh Robinson (Bannatynes Juniors), Nathan Woodrow (Bannatynes Juniors), Aaron Woodrow (Bannatynes Juniors) and Connor Tomlin (Bannatynes).

Scottish Championships 2008

The 20th Anniversary Scottish Championships took place on 27 / 28 September at Grangemouth Sports Centre.  This was a big year for the NP Tae Kwon Do Academy as we had over 25 students competing from across our 3 clubs and took 26 medals in total including 7 Scottish titles.  Well done to everyone who took part over the 2 days including our newest Scottish title winners; Ewan Campbell (Bannatynes Juniors), Lee Wallace (Bannatynes), Chris O'Malley (Bannatynes), Craig Morgan (Kelty) and Morgan Dow (Kelty).  Thanks also to the black belts / senior grade colour belts who gave their support to help with the running of the tournament across the weekend.

August 2008

Black Belt League - Dunblane

The final Black Belt league of the year took place on Sunday 17 August in Dunblane.  This was the third black belt league of the year and all of our black belts were waiting to hear the overall results for the year.  Mr Purves took gold for male heavy weight sparring and male power destruction.  Mr Andrew Miller took  bronze in 1st Degree patterns, Silver in male light weight sparring, bronze in male specialist technique and bronze in male power destruction.   Mr Dougie Chalmers took silver in 1st Degree patterns, bronze in male light weight sparring and silver in male specialist technique.  Also well done to Mrs Louise Purves and Mr Owain Barratt who also took part this year.

Club Grading - Kelty / Bannatynes Juniors

The  Kelty grading took place on Thursday 3 July.  The grading lasted a little bit  longer than normal as in addition to the Kelty Juniors it was also the first gradings for both Kelty Adults and Bannatynes Juniors.  A good standard was shown from the students of all 3 clubs and we are happy to say that the grading resulted in 29 promotions.

June 2008

The Gathering, Burntisland

The annual 'Gathering' competition took place on 28 June and saw a great turn out from both Kelty juniors and Bannatynes adults.  In the morning we took 3 golds and 2 bronzes across the peewee and rainbow sections with Morgan Dow (Kelty) going on to win the overall rainbow section.  In the afternoon we also did well in the adult sections taking 3 medals and with Mr Miller going on from his gold in the adult males to take the overall adult gold.  Also, well done to Lee Wallace who took 4th in the adults ladies at her first competition.  Well done to everyone who took part and thanks to all the parents who were able to bring their children along.

Black Belt League, Burntisland

The second Black Belt League took place on Saturday 14 June in Burntisland.  Following the recent Black Belt Grading, Mr Barratt made an impressive debut taking part alongside all of the black belts from the club.

May 2008

Black Belt Gradings, Bo'ness

The first black belt seminar and grading of the year took place on 3 & 4 May at Bo'ness Recreation Centre.  This saw Owain Barratt being promoted to 1st Degree Blackbelt (our first junior blackbelt!)  Whilst Owain was able to celebrate this the other blackbelts (including Mr Purves) have to wait a bit longer to find out the results from their national gradings.

April 2008

Open Competition, Cork

Mr Chalmers along with other members of  GTF Scotland attended an open competition in Cork, Ireland on 26 April.  Mr Chalmers did us proud picked up a bronze medal in the male, 1st Degree patterns section.

March 2008

Colour Belt Competition, Cupar

The second colour belt competition of the year took place on Saturday 22 March.  Students from both Kelty and Bannantynes took part winning a total of 22 medals in the individual sections and the Kelty 'Devils' winning gold for the junior team sparring.

Carnegie Trust Royal Visit

On Wednesday 13 February members of the Bannatynes Club were invited to attend the opening of the new Carnegie Trust Building in Dunfermline in the presence of Princess Anne.  Mr Purves attended with Louise Purves, Dougie Chalmers, Brenda Walker and Melanie Dover.  As Princess Anne made here way around the groups everyone had the opportunity to speak to her.

Black Belt League

The first Black Belt League took place on Sunday 3 February at Inverkeithing High School.  As there are 3 leagues over the year, no medals were won but all of the black belts put themselves in a good position for some medals at the end of the year.


January 2008

Kelty Club Grading

The first Kelty club grading took place on Monday 28 January.  All students successfully passed with 11 new red tags and yellow tags.  Well done to all who graded.

Black Belt League Awards Dinner
The 4th Annual Black Belt League Awards dinner took place at Pettycur Bay on Saturday 19 January.  Mr Purves received bronze for his sparring division, Louise Purves received silver for her patterns division and Kevin Whitelaw received silver medals for both his patterns and sparring divisions.

Colour Belt Competition, Burntisland

The first colour belt competition of the year took place on Saturday 26 January.  From the Kelty Club Andrew Beveridge and Josh Anderson both took part with them winning 3 bronze medals and 3 gold medals respectively.  From Bannatynes Owain Barratt and Fraser Barratt both took medals in the individual categories along with gold in the junior teams.  From the adults Stuart Ballantine, Ian Penman and Paul Fyffe all took part. Well done to everyone.
